Zoöloog

The Gelderlander stallion Zoöloog himself was among the best dressagehorses of America. Before that he was approved as studstallion in The Netherlands by KWPN. He made a good 100 days performance testing and he was approved by KWPN by the quality of his foals. From only 49 KWPN-foals even 4 international dressagehorses appeared (Elorianne, participating for Spain in the World Equestrian Games in Rome; Gucci and Dutch Dragon in USA; Glamour in The Netherlands). In 1998 Zoöloog still occurs in the KWPN-index in The Netherlands. His 14 children in dressage there gave Zoöloog in this index ranking 17 of 181 stallions, with an dressage-index of 146 (immediately after the stallion Sultan). The 3 international horses abroad have not even been counted for this index.
So Zoöloog - the only by KWPN approved ridinghorse stallion with a Gelderlander pedigree - is the best stallion for breeding dressagehorses of whole KWPN.
In begin 2000 when Zoöloog - after a sad history - was available anew for breeding and could be used again for the expansion of the Gelderlander bloodlines, KWPN published that such children of Zoöloog were not allowed to take part in whatever KWPN-show. Argumentation: because the fact that Zoöloog after his departure to America did not appear at the yearly KWPN stallion inspection in The Netherlands, he was automatically disapproved on the ground of the Dutch Paardenwet (law on behalf of breeding good horses). The outdated Paardenwet - from the time that cavalry was still important for the defence of Holland - has already been abolished years ago and is no longer a hindrance at all for the full registration of children of Zoöloog in the KWPN studbook.
In December 2000 Zoöloog died in America without even having had a new chance to make a contribution to the increase of Gelderlander stallionlines. The above mentioned pure Gelderlander international dressagehorse Glamour (Zoöloog x Eufraat) was already in 1991 by KWPN not approved for the Gelderlander breeding, notwithstanding he had fine old Gelderlander bloodlines that were no longer available elsewhere; Glamour is a gelding now.
Just as in the case of Patrick the anti-Gelderlander KWPN-politics have proved successful again, alas.
